Postcards from Edgewood

This was a campy attempt at a Southwestern still-life from a newly transplanted Midwesterner (over the summer). In case you're wondering... the little lobster thing is actually a toy scorpion from my son's vast pile of plastic playthings. To be honest, I've never seen one around the house. Lots of strange bugs, and lizards- Yes. Scorpions, Tarantulas- thankfully NO!  :>)

I like it, especially the texture in the hat. Tricky, but you pulled it off well!

Thanks Kerri! To be honest, I kinda' feel like I got away with something in regard to the hat. The tight cropping obscures it enough that if the texture didn't scream "straw hat", the whole painting probably falls on it's face.

Great still life, Tom - very nostalgic with the old camera. I agree, wonderful job with the straw hat.

Nice composition with the hat, and nice brushwork as always. Love the postcard, too!
